How much is ear piercing? Studio, Claire's, Banter and Rowan prices compared

Ear piercing is priced in three different ways, and they are easy to mix up:

1. A service fee, with jewelry extra. Most studios we checked work this way.
2. One price with starter jewelry included. Some studios quote it this way.
3. A “free” piercing that needs an earring purchase. Claire’s and Banter advertise this, and Rowan charges a fee plus jewelry.

Comparing a fee-only quote with an all-in quote is how a $25 piercing and a $55 piercing turn out to be the same price. Everything below is as published in September 2026, so confirm with the studio before you book.

What studios charge for a lobe

We read six published US price lists from different cities. We have not checked whether these studios meet the Association of Professional Piercers (APP) checklist, so they show how prices are quoted rather than being recommendations.

Halo charges $30 for the first lobe and $25 for each additional one. Amato’s $55 is a $25 service fee plus $30 for the jewelry, and Golden Child’s price is for ages 12 and over.

At the three fee-only studios, jewelry is extra. Their lists show a flat-back stud at $35 each in Oakland, titanium barbells from $36 in Phoenix and a barbell from $26 in Oklahoma City.

Working out a pair

The fee-only total uses the two-lobe fees above plus two studs at $26 to $36 each.

Claire’s, Banter and Rowan

These are what each company’s own page said in September 2026.

“Free” means the piercing has no separate charge, not that the visit costs nothing. You have to buy earrings, so the price is the earrings. Ear piercing at Claire’s, Banter and Rowan compared sets out what else differs.

Cartilage and noses

Claire’s lists outer cartilage (helix) and nose piercing at select locations only. Banter lists cartilage and nose piercing from age 13. Rowan lists needle piercing at $35 per ear for helix, conch, forward helix, tragus, flat and lobe, and a nose piercing at $45, in each case plus jewelry. Children and babies

Golden Child listed lobes by age: $60 for one and $120 for a pair for ages 0 to 2, $55 and $110 for ages 3 to 11, and $50 and $100 from age 12, with standard titanium jewelry included.

Age and method are a health question as well as a price one. The APP’s standard is that for any piercing of a minor, a parent or legal guardian must be present to sign a consent form. The follow-up costs

Most piercings need a jewelry change during healing. The lists we read charged $10 for a jewelry change in Oakland and Philadelphia and $10 and up in Phoenix. Amato says all jewelry changes, checkups and cleanings are free. Rowan lists a $25 post-change service on weekdays and a free jewelry change with a Rowan earring purchase. A low price is not the whole story

The APP’s advice is not to act impulsively or be seduced by a low price, as you generally get what you pay for.
